No one-size-fits all: building a security function for the post-pandemic world
IT security is often more an art than an exact science. Just look at the events of the past two years. Few organisations were prepared for what happened. And many are still putting the right pieces in place to ensure they build post-pandemic digital transformation on a secure foundation. There’s no doubt that these security building blocks are now an essential pre-requisite for business success. What is still unclear is what form they should take.
Part of the journey will involve technology. Putting the right blend of automated, platform-centric capabilities in place to simplify protection from the endpoint to the cloud. But an equally important element will be building the right team. That means finding, developing and mentoring talent. And as a practitioner, it means understanding that to progress in the industry, you need to realise that cyber is increasingly a social science as much as an IT discipline.
